Dear Supersprint Competitors,

The Supersprint Rules from 2025 needed to be updated.  A great deal of effort has been expended on making Supersprint Regulations 2026 Ver.2 and Annex-A 2026,  This provides a set of car Classes and expanded Base Points for all M and non-M models that is then, irrespective of driver ability, a real Championship Competition.

Here is the program for the way ahead

• You have until 11 May to submit your comments to Motorsport@bmwclubmsw.asn.au.    
• 14 May - the completed Supersprint Regulations 2026 Ver.2 and Annex-A 2026     will be published here on this club’s website
• 14 May Registration for Supersprint Round 2 will be open. That is SS.2 - 14 Jun Gardner Circuit and it is the Annual BMW/Porsche Challenge.
• Competitors Register to drive in SS.2 using Classes from Supersprint Regulations 2026 Ver.2  with  Annex-A 2026
• Competitors use and submit their new Annex-C  Ver 2

3.0 – Modifications

Most modifications made to a vehicle will incur modification weighting points. These points are based only on the potential performance improvements that a particular modification can make to a vehicle’s possible fastest single flying lap time in a Supersprint. Points calculations do not consider the effect a modification has on reliability, safety, endurance, etc. Some modifications do not incur modification weighting points as the possible variance they provide to a vehicle’s performance and therefore single lap time either cannot be reasonably predicted or are deemed as a safety item. No consideration is given to the possibility of incorrect user setup.

The total modification weighting points are added to a vehicle’s base points to determine the total points value for classing.

NOTE - Refer to Annex B for modification points.

3.1 – Engine Swaps – Base points for vehicles that have had engine swaps carried out, that were NOT available by the manufacturer in Australia, are calculated using the maximum weight of a given chassis and the factory published power output for a given engine to arrive at vehicle base points value. All required modifications to the engine and chassis that were utilised to facilitate the engine swap (above factory fit) will be added to the modification points for the vehicle (for example, aftermarket tune, camshafts, etc.)

3.2 – Fixed Back Racing Seats/4-6pt Harness/Safety Cage – From 2023 and onwards for all club motorsport speed events it is strongly recommended that any vehicle that has:

1.      a fixed back racing seat installed to replace the factory installed seat be fitted with at a minimum a 4 point safety cage and a 4 point safety harness

2.      a safety harness fitted for the driver and/or passenger be fitted with at a minimum a 4 point safety cage and a fixed back racing seat

All seats, harness and safety cages are to be fitted with correct technical specifications as per Schedule I and Schedule J in the Motorsport Australia Manual.

Frontal Head Restraints (FHR) will only be mandatory as per Motorsport Australia Regulations.

 

Important note:

Some seats, safety harnesses and fitting of safety cages may not comply with the Transport for NSW law.  Where the vehicle is to be driven on a public road, it is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure that it complies with the law.

3.3 – Declaration – All drivers must complete and submit an on-line 2025 Annex C  Modifications Declaration Form before their first event of each Supersprint season, and/or if any modifications have been made to their vehicle that would affect the total modifications points since the last event, to be eligible to accrue points in the Supersprint Championship. 2025 Annex C  also includes the vehicle owner’s permission to run the vehicle in the Club’s speed events.  On-line 2025 Annex C  forms completed by any driver will be available for viewing to any Supersprint Championship driver upon request to the Motorsport Committee.

3.4 – Enforcement – A vehicle competing in the Supersprint Championship may at any time, at the discretion of the Club Motorsport Committee, be scrutineered by a Club Motorsport Committee member or scrutineer assigned by the Club Motorsport Committee to ensure compliance with the relevant Supersprint Regulations.

3.5 – Should any driver be found to have incorrectly declared their modifications which would have resulted in a change of class, at the sole discretion of the Club Motorsport Committee, all points accrued for that championship year will be forfeit and the driver will be ineligible accrue points for the remainder of that championship year.

 

3.6 – Examples

4.0 – Prepared Classes

The Prepared Classes have been implemented to provide a means for more modified cars and/or high-performance factory cars to participate in a more level field. The Prepared Class makes no distinction between BMW ‘M’ and ‘non-M’ vehicles and are judged solely on the base points value for that model with the addition of modification weighting points.

Prepared C – 210-240

Prepared B – 245-265

Prepared A – 270+

4.1 Exceptions

4.1.1 - MA cars do not qualify for Prepared C or Prepared B and will qualify for Prepared A if the total number of points are equal to or exceed 270 with the exceptions of the vehicles in rule 4.1.3.

4.1.2 – MB cars do not qualify for MA. If an MB vehicle’s points are equal to or exceed 210 points then they will qualify for a Prepared class. Rule 4.1.3 still applies.

4.1.3 – Vehicles with only one (1) modification will not qualify for a Prepared class even if their total number of points are equal to or exceed that of one of the Prepared classes. If there is more than one (1) modification, standard rules will apply. This rule does not apply to cars with a base points value exceeding 245. All Wheel Drive as a factory option or standard equipment does not count towards the 1 modification. Note: the Motorsport Committee has the right to alter the vehicle Championship class, subject to modification type and Supersprint results.

5.0 – O “Others” Classes

The O or Others Class is for all non-BMW marques except Lotus racecars that are competing in their own Class within the BMW Drivers Club NSW Supersprint Championship. Drivers/Competitors must enter their details into the supplied base points calculation spreadsheet to determine their correct base points and then add modification weighting as per Annex B when completing their on-line Annex C Form.

Others B – (OB) 0-195

Others A – (OA) 200+

Should there be less than 5 Class OB drivers who compete in a minimum of three Supersprints for the year in, Class OA and OB will be merged into one Class called Other “O”.

As long as there are 5 or more Lotus race cars competing in our BMW Supersprint Championship they will have their own Lotus Class. (OL) 

As on the addition to the Annex-A table for Lotus models currently used in our competition, all have more than 200 BVP.

6.0 – Point Scoring

6.1 – The point score system described here will determine class winners for the award of trophies to be presented at the Annual Presentation Dinner that is normally in the first month or two of the next year.

6.2 – Only the highest scores from one less than the total number of rounds in that particular year will be counted. E.g. If there are 8 rounds, then the top 7 rounds are counted. Points accrued for volunteering as a marshal are in addition to the points earned as a competitor. In a season where there are 2 Supersprints away from NSW then highest scores from two less than the total number of rounds in that particular year will be counted.  There may be changes to this rule if the number of rounds falls below 5.

6.3 – Point Allocation

Points are awarded for the top 10 in each class:

1st = 25, 2nd = 18, 3rd = 15, 4th = 12, 5th = 10, 6th = 8, 7th = 6, 8th = 4, 9^th = 2, 10^th = 1.

6.4 – To facilitate volunteer official duties, a championship participant may elect to officiate (flag Marshall, grid Marshall, clerk of the course, steward, track manager, race control) at a round and subsequently be awarded part-points in recognition of their service, with the following caveats;

i.     The participant is to apply by email or by telephone for officiating duties a minimum of two weeks prior to the round and be provided confirmation by the Motorsport Committee regarding their application.

ii.    The participant must hold the minimum qualifications as required by Motorsport Australia to perform the selected volunteer official duties.

iii.   The participant must present themselves to the clerk of the course at the start of the day for the officials sign-on and briefing to be eligible.

iv.   The participant must be available for officiating duties for the entirety of the day.

v.    Points awarded are as follows; 10 points awarded for first round officiated, 8 points awarded for the second round officiated, and 4 points awarded for any round officiated thereafter.

vi.   Any points awarded are non-transferable between individuals and is only valid for your previously nominated class.

vii.  A participant may introduce a volunteer for official duties to officiate (flag Marshall or grid Marshall) at a round.  Caveats i. through iv. referring to the volunteer apply, and 2 points are awarded to the participant for that round for arranging that volunteer. Point vi. also applies.  

6.5 – To facilitate the running of an event, a championship participant may elect to volunteer for driver sign on and/or scrutineering duties.

i.     The participant is to apply by email or by telephone for officiating duties a minimum of two weeks prior to the round and be provided confirmation by the Motorsport Committee regarding their application.

ii.    The participant must hold the minimum qualifications as required by Motorsport Australia to perform the selected volunteer duties.

iii.   The participant must present themselves to the motorsport director 1 hour or more before Driver Briefing to be eligible.

iv.   The participant must be available for driver sign on and/or scrutineering duties up until driver sign on and scrutineering closes.

v.    Points awarded are as follows; 2 points awarded for the first time and 1 point awarded for subsequent rounds.

vi.   Any points awarded are non-transferable between individuals, and is only valid for your previously nominated class.

6.6 – The competition year will be based on the calendar year.

6.7 – The driver with the most accumulated points (from their best counted number of events plus volunteer points) during the competition year will be the winner of that class for the year.

6.8 – In the event of a tie for a place, a count back of the highest points awarded for all events (until a winner is determined) will be used as a tie-breaker at the end of the season.

6.9 – Competitors must compete in at least 2 rounds to be eligible for the club championship.

6.10 – Points are only allocated to financial members of the BMW Drivers Club NSW.

6.11 – Points earned are allocated to the competitor in a class in which their vehicle classifies, not to a particular vehicle.

6.12 – A driver is permitted to compete in and earn points in more than one class at any event if they enter and pay for more than one entry.

6.13 – Within a single event entry, a driver may change cars during an event at the discretion of the clerk of Course but may only earn competition points for one class per entry.

6.14 – Any driver wishing to change classes from event to event can gain points toward their total championship in the class that they compete in a particular event only. Points cannot be transferred between classes.

6.15 – Swapping vehicles during or between rounds will only accrue points towards the class in which that vehicle classifies. They cannot accrue points towards more than one class with only one entry.

6.16 – All drivers must submit a completed on-line Annex C Form to show their vehicle owners permission to run the vehicle in the club’s speed events and to be eligible to earn championship points. Entry will not be permitted, and points will not be earned or backdated for any events where an on-line Annex-C 2025 form was not yet submitted.

7.0 – Miscellaneous

7.1 – The Motorsport Committee may, at their discretion, reclassify any car to another class where it is determined to be in the spirit of that Class.

7.2 – All cars will be fitted with a functioning fire extinguisher as described in the current Motorsport Australia Manual of Motorsport (Schedule H)

7.3 – Drivers’ conduct is answerable to the Clerk of Course at the track and adverse conduct shall be reported to the Motorsport Committee. Event Steward my issue fines for inappropriate activity.

7.4 – If a competitor is moved from any class and he/she believes that he/she belongs in that class then he/she must make himself/herself available to the Motorsport Committee to adjudicate the matter. If a competitor knowingly competes in a class when in fact his/her car does not conform to the requirements of that class then all points accrued to date for that year will be forfeited.

7.5 – Competitors will be notified by the Motorsport Committee in writing of any class changes affecting that competitor, no later than 10 working days after the completion of the event.

7.6 – Championship points will not be carried over to a new class when a competitors’ vehicle changes class.

7.7 – The Motorsport Committee shall have final ruling on all disputes and matters.
